The Age of Miracles: Climate Change Fiction
Wednesday, October 9
12:00PM - 1:00PM
Austin Convention Center MR 6AB
The rotation of the Earth has begun to slow, and days and nights are growing longer and longer. All the scheduled rituals of daily life are disrupted. More ominously, as days and nights elongate, people start getting sick and acting out. Crops begin to fail, the oceans rise and flood waterfront homes, and food and water are hoarded. There is talk about the end of the world, and the possibility of emigrating to space or another planet.
In Karen Thompson Walker’s acclaimed debut novel The Age of Miracles, the author raises fundamental questions on how we adapt to the unimaginable and how we manage the unthinkable. This Eco conversation will look at the role of the novelist as a catalyst for dialogue around human behavior and response to climate change.
