Summary

Re-imagine the school building, not as a container for education, but as a learning tool and laboratory for sustainability and STEM education! From the design process to curriculum integration, Marya Fowler (NWF Eco-Schools USA), Gina LaMotte (EcoRise Youth Innovations), and Alix Ogilvie (Architecture for Humanity) will share how green school programs are helping communities across the nation promote a culture of environmental stewardship while adopting an innovative approach to STEM education (science, technology, engineering and math). Through Campus Eco-Audits, wildlife habitats and a variety of green campus and design projects, schools can integrate sustainability education while increasing student engagement. We will highlight school case studies from across the nation and partnerships with the US Green Building Council. We will illustrate the continuum of green education at the University level by sharing examples of community based design-build projects.
