Summary

Conservation can no longer merely catalogue the demise of species on this planet, but must engineer its future. Emerging science and technology have given us powerful new tools to transform conservation. Advances in robotics, machine learning, networked sensors, drones, and nano satellites have given us the ability to protect ecosystems in real time. A modern synthesis of biology and tech, including new gene editing tools, could accelerate adaptation to a changing environment, control invasive species, extinguish pathogens, provide replacements from protein to plastics, and help restore degraded lands. Conservation 3.0 is creating a new tribe to harness next generation conservation solutions.
