Summary

Graphitecture describes an emerging area of design that uses mobile, open source media to engage users with their environments. This phenomena is less augmented reality than a reality that’s being augmented. We’ll explore three projects that use mobile media to re-imagine public space; a first that turns public transportation into a roving museum, a second that stitches together vacant spaces, and a third that builds local resilience through social media. If the automobile defined the way cities looked in the mid to late 20th century, mobile media is beginning to shift the way cities are designed and experienced in the 21st century.
