Quick Bio

Michael O’Heaney is Executive Director of The Story of Stuff Project, a pioneering new media initiative that has produced nine widely acclaimed web films over the past eight years, garnering more than 50 million online views around the world. As the Project’s lead strategist, Michael cultivates meaningful learning and changemaking opportunities for the 1 million+ members of its online Community. He served as Co-Director of the Project with its founder, Annie Leonard, until 2013.

Prior to joining The Story of Stuff Project, Michael developed fundraising and communications strategies for environmental and civil rights organizations as the principal of Channing Way Consulting. He also served as the Development Director of two San Francisco Bay Area-based advocacy organizations—Pacific Environment and Global Exchange. Michael is a graduate of Bucknell University and lives in Berkeley, CA, where he served as the fundraising chair of the Rosa Parks Elementary PTA for the past three years.
