Sarah Gillian Ward
City of Cape Town - Head Energy & Climate Change Unit
Ms. Sarah Ward has been the Head of Energy and Climate Change for the City of Cape Town since 2008. Prior to this position, she worked as a consultant for the City and city-focused organizations, including Sustainable Energy Africa’s City Energy Implementation Project and ICLEI Africa. Ms. Ward’s work in research and strategic consulting include: contributing to the State of Energy Report Cape Town 2015, the Gauteng 2034 Energy Theme Paper, and a book titled, Climate Change at the City Scale, and consulting the City of Cape Town on topics including economic and human development and energy. Ms. Ward is a board member of Sustainable Energy Africa and Green Cape, a non-profit supporting the green economy in the Western Cape, South Africa, and a founding member of a local energy NGO called the Women’s Energy Group. Ms. Ward lectured on Sustainable Energy Planning for Cities at Stellenbosch University in Stellenbosch, South Africa. She holds a master’s degree in Renewable Energy Technologies from Stellenbosch University and a master’s degree in Town and Regional Planning from the University of Natal in Durban, South Africa.
